E-commerce is a huge platform that is growing at an unprecedented rate all over the world. E-Commerce has become India’s fastest-growing and most exciting channel for commercial transactions. The Indian e-commerce market is expected to grow to $200 billion by 2026 from US$ 48.5billion as of 2018. This growth has been triggered as a result of increasing internet and smartphone penetration.

The remarkable growth of Indian e-commerce has undeniably aided several industries. E-commerce has benefited the jewellery industry. There is a proliferation in the retail outlets and franchise stores along with an increase in the presence of online players thanks to e-commerce websites and applications. Customers were buying a small ticket size of jewellery online. With the proliferation of e-commerce this ticket size has increased in the last 2 - 3 years and is expected to grow as the customer’s journey matures.

As more retailers in the jewellery segment realise the huge opportunity in the e-commerce sector, the market is set to become increasingly competitive. Consumer expectations are rising and they are not just looking for the best options but also a great shopping experience.

Augmented Reality for the jewellery business?

Augmented reality (AR) is one of the biggest technology trends right now and it’s going to get bigger as AR-powered smartphones and other devices become more accessible around the world. The recent trend has made the retail shift from established shops to mobile phones. Most people have actually stopped buying from offline shops, rather, they prefer online shopping. Now, the biggest problem that online vendors face is the inability to make customers try products on themselves. It is practically impossible for consumers to visualise 2-dimensional images of the products.

Augmented reality helps to solve these problems to a great extent. Just like you can try before buying clothes, similarly, JewelTRY provides the benefit of trying before buying online shopping jewellery. Jewellery selling is all about attracting consumers & invoking desires in them to purchase, which is only possible when they try different designs, colours, and products. Augmented reality has completely changed the idea of in-store selling.

Today virtual jewellery experience is on the rise, where people can simply use their smartphones and try the jewellery virtually to see how it fits them. Also, the jewellery shopping trend is gradually becoming outdated because many retailers have been very slow in building a web presence. It is high time to keep clients engaged and serve them digitally.
